A: Holding R wing well. Very interested in adult and two are interacting positively so far. Was able to hork down whole chick after a bit of effort.

Took VD and skyline x-rays: midshaft R ulna fracture appears more displaced and overriding, can more easily see distal radial fracture and a distal ulna fracture, bowing at the proximal aspect of the bone - looks like there is likely radius/ulna fractures there as well. Possible small fracture at the proximal R TBT as well. Scrape along the R femur mostly healed. Left out of wing wrap. A: As bird is growing can see previously not detectable additional fractures, especially at the distal and proximal ulna and proximal radius, causing bones appeared bowed, midshaft ulna fracture not healing as well as would expect (likely due to the presence of additional fractures). Not a candidate for surgery as fractures are close to the joints - will give bird some time out of wrap to see how he continues to develop, but looking very guarded for releasability.
P: Ok to end tramadol. Monitor how bird holds wing out of wrap, continue daily PT on wing. Repeat x-rays in a few days.

Performed fundic exam including IOP study - NSF on either. Failed blood draws from both medial metatarsal veins, was able to draw blood from L basilic vein, no hematoma observed after draw. Removed paper tape from R wing. Fractures to both radius and ulna relatively stable upon gentle palpation. Reapplied paper tape wrap. Cleaned R lateral femur with dilute chlorhex. Moved from incubator on 85 to regular SS cage with a low heating pad. Gave fluids and oral meds. Applied loose paper tape around R wing to hold closed with consideration for rapid baby growth and blood feathers. Gave fluids in L inguinal area. Gave oral meds. Placed back in incubator, decreased temperature to 85. Noted bird was standing and preening shortly after putback. HF 51g rat in camo - ate eagerly. A: Radiographs confirm closed oblique fracture to the right ulna with moderate ventral displacement seen on skyline view. Also shows fracture to the distalmost end of the right radius - only noted this after putting back, did not palpate. The radial fracture appears to be in decent alignment and should heal well on own with proper stabilization and cage rest, however the displacement shown on the ulnar fracture may require surgery to realign. HFs very well, could not yet prompt to pick up food on own though.
P: Change paper tape SID, retake radiographs Monday with vet check.

Found with deceased sibling, mobile and walking away to shelter. Bird was standing bundled in towel in transport box. Able to stand on admit. Alert and opening mouth at us.
O: Took temp - very cold. Performed quick initial exam. Noted broken R ulna, mid-shaft. Opted not to wrap as bird is quite QAR and not attempting to flare either wing. Placed directly in heat in ICU incubator. ------------- PHYSICAL EXAM FINDINGS ---------------- Mentation: QAR Temp (F): 98.3 Dehydration (%): 5 Neurologic: WNL Head/mouth/beak: Mouth tacky. Small plaque in back of throat, adhered Ears: DNE Eyes: DNE - seemed visual in hand Wings: R ulna fx mid-shaft Legs: NSF Feet: NSF Body: Wet, cold, skinny Feather condition: Downy, flight feathers and tail IB. Wet and covered in organic debris Ectoparasites: None seen Radiographic findings: DNE Initial treatment: Placed in incubator on max in ICU to warm. Pull for radiographs before leaving, apply tape or fabric wrap to R wing.
A: FFN baby RTHA. Initial palpation of R ulnar fx did not reveal much crepitus, hopeful that fracture will be able to be stabilized and heal properly. No other significant initial findings. Need to complete intake exam once bird has had a chance to warm.
P: 5/3 PM - radiographs, apply tape or wrap to R wing. 5/4 - draw blood for TS/PCV/CBC, collect fecal sample. Keep with mirror and stuffed animal. Start at HF 1/2 clean TID with camo. Clean debris from feathers as able. rx fluids, terbinafine, low dose tramadol, calcium slurry, meloxicam. Plan to change wing stabilizer at least SID. 5/5 - vet check. Monitor plaque at back of mouth/further check for if trich
